About us

The field of training ‒ health care; specialty ‒ dentistry; educational qualification level ‒ master; final qualification ‒ dentist; the form of study ‒ full-time for budget or extrabudgetary funding. Term of study ‒ 5 years with a subsequent internship in medical specialties of primary specialization.

Human resources, modern information and logistical support of the pedagogical process, scientific and clinical activities allow us to achieve high-level students’ training as well as for masters, graduate students and doctoral students. We introduce innovative pedagogical and therapeutic technologies. Students have the opportunity to undergo internships not only within Ukraine but also in hospitals in other countries.

Graduates of the faculty who have successfully studied special military disciplines are awarded an officer’s rank by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The faculty consists of 7 departments, namely: Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Medical Cosmetology, Department of Neurosurgery, Department of Orthopedic Dentistry, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Implantology, Department of Therapeutic Dentistry, Department of Surgical Dentistry.

History of the faculty

The history of the Kharkiv Dental School dates back to 1921 when the odontology faculty was founded within the Kharkiv Medical Academy. This historic decision laid the foundation for higher dental education in Ukraine.

1921 ‒ Kharkiv Medical Academy has been renamed to the Kharkiv Medical Institute, which included two faculties: medical and odontology.
1931 ‒ The Faculty of Odontology was transformed into the Kharkiv Dental Institute.
1967 ‒ The Dental Institute was transferred to the city of Poltava and renamed the Poltava Medical Dental Institute.
1978 ‒ The Faculty of Dentistry was opened at the Kharkiv Medical Institute.
1994 ‒ Kharkiv State Medical University is the successor of the Kharkiv Medical Institute.
2007 ‒ Kharkiv National Medical University.

In different years the Faculty of Dentistry was headed by prominent scientists in various fields of medicine: Honored Professor E.M. Gofung, Assoc. Friedman J.L., prof. Fabrikant M.B., prof. Lindenbaum LM, Assoc. Volter P.K., Krivonosov M.V., Filatov V.F., Ruzin G.P., Golik V.P., Kapustnik V.A., Nikonov V.V.

Faculty today

Today the Faculty of Dentistry is one of the leading dental schools in Ukraine, with a rich tradition and numerous international connections. Powerful human resources, modern information and logistical support of the pedagogical process, scientific and clinical activities allow to achieve a high level of training of students, masters, graduate students, and doctoral students, as well to introduce innovative pedagogical and medical technologies.
