An international conference on philosophy was held

On October 27-28, the International conference “Voices from Ukraine: Women Philosophers and Scientists against War and Ecocide” was held in the city of Paderborn (Germany) in the framework of cooperation between the Kharkiv National Medical University and the University of Paderborn in a hybrid format, the initiators and organizers of which were Prof. Ruth Hagengruber and Prof. Kateryna Karpenko. The Center for the History of Women in Philosophy and Science of the University of Paderborn and the Center for Gender Education of the KHNMU have been cooperating for almost 10 years. The holding of this conference is an important component of the research project that received financial support from the MSCA4Ukraine fund, which is financed by the Council of Europe. Scientists from Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Kropyvnytskyi came to Germany from Ukraine.

The participants of the conference were addressed with congratulatory words: Professor Dr. Birgitt Riegraf, President of the University of Paderborn, Professor Valery Miasoiedov, vice-rector for scientific work at Kharkiv National Medical University; Her Excellency Iryna Shum, General Consul of Ukraine in Düsseldorf, Germany, Prof. Dorothy Meister, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Paderborn, Elke Ferner, former state secretary of the parliament, president of the National Committee of UN Women of Germany, Dr. Oksana Seumenicht (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Berlin), Professor, Dr. Lumer Christoph (German Society for Analytical Philosophy).

A separate event of the conference was a creative meeting with the famous Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko (awarded the Order of Princess Olga (2009), the French National Order of the Legion of Honor (2023), and many other national and international awards.

The possibility of philosophy to respond to the challenges of the times was discussed during a round table with the participation of the president of the German Philosophical Society, Prof. Reinold Schmücker.

KHNMU was presented by reports of Prof. Kateryna Karpenko, Prof. Volodymir Abashnik, Assoc. Prof. Nataliya Martynenko, assistant Prof. Maria Fidrovska M.G. Lecturers of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences took part in the discussions. Reports of Prof. Tetyana Chumachenko and Prof. Oksana Nakonechna convincingly revealed the epidemiological and biochemical threats of ecocide, proving the need for an interdisciplinary study of the threats arising from it.
