Hug dog in children's and medical therapy

On January 9, the team of the public education and volunteering sector, together with the First Medical Faculty of the Student Government of KhNMU, held an event for children – “New Year’s Consilium” within the framework of the “Baby Doctor” project at KNP City Clinical Children’s Hospital No. 16 of the Kharkiv City Council.

Also, the team of the KNP “City Clinical Children’s Hospital No. 16” solemnly presented the Student Self-Government of the Khznyu University with two therapeutic toys, Hibuki dogs from Israeli specialists and experts in Hibuki therapy, for further use in classes with children.

The task of the “Doctor-Baby” project is to tell children exactly what doctors use and why, what functions certain medical devices perform, how our body functions and what organs are contained in it. In addition, due to the fact that most of the children with whom our volunteers work spend a large part of their lives near doctors and using various medical devices, our medical students want to show them that there is no need to be afraid of this, that they are our faithful helpers and friends.

The event was held in the form of a Medical Council, where each of the children played the role of a doctor and was a member of the same medical team. Before the start of the event, a video invitation was sent to the children and invitation cards were issued, which made the event even more official and important in the eyes of the children.

The proposed games helped the children understand the functioning of our body: they named all the organs and placed them on a schematic image of the human body. Also, all children easily coped with the task about the structure and functioning of medical equipment, they themselves named the components of a medical syringe, catheter, drip system. Another task of the “New Year’s Council” is to discuss the diseases of toy patients. Each child had a toy that was diagnosed and treated.

Finally, the children wrote their wishes and closed them in time-capsules made of syringes, which they can later open and check if their dreams have come true.
In the future, our volunteers plan to continue the “Little Doctor” project with the introduction of Hibuki therapy in various hospitals in the city of Kharkiv.
