Scientific work of the Department of Physiology

Since 2015, the research of the department is aimed at determining the features of integrative and autonomic functions in the process of adaptation to intellectual, emotional and physical stress in medical students in the dynamics of the first three years of study, as well as the state of autonomous regulation in social, temporal and natural factors (research supervisor – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Dmitry Igorevich Marakushin).

Physiology department together with the Department of Public Health and Health Care Management performed the initiative research work “STATE OF AUTONOMIC REGULATION IN STUDENTS IN THE PROCESS OF ADAPTATION TO SOCIAL, TEMPORAL AND NATURAL FACTORS” (№ of state registration 0118U000947; deadline: 2018-2020). During the first year of research, it was found out that most of the students surveyed have an average level of adaptive potential, with the following trend – the higher is the personal adaptive capacity, the higher is the self-esteem of quality of life. The revealed tension of the neuropsychological state in people with low level of psychosocial adaptation leads to a decrease in attention and faster development of fatigue, which was confirmed by the results of the study.

The obtained data on the severity of meteorological sensitivity among students indicated the progressive meteorological sensitivity in young people against the background of functional loads (physical, intellectual, emotional, mental, etc.) in conditions of lack of time, stressful situations, high work intensity, which can cause depletion of reserve capacity organism in conditions of constantly changing intensity of influence of factors of the nature of a geomagnetic situation and is one of the reasons of development of a maladaptation syndrome, almost to development of meteopathies. Based on the above, the staff of the department developed recommendations for prevention and progression of meteorological dependence for young people, including medical students.

MAIN SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS

The obtained results of research allowed establishing that in people with vagotonia and sympathicotonia the state of regulatory mechanisms is characterized by moderate stress with the consumption of additional reserves. Also, there are signs of ineffective mechanisms of regulation and provision of loading where in people with vagotonia adaptation to exercise occurs mainly due to excessive increase in heart rate in combination with increased diastolic blood pressure. In people with sympathicotonia an excessive increase in pulse blood pressure was found, which is an unfavorable sign and is a predictor of the development of arterial hypertension. Peculiarities of the recovery period testified to the failure of regulatory mechanisms and inconsistencies in the implementation of reciprocity of the autonomic nervous system. For the first time, an unfavorable range of dynamics after exercise was found in people with initial vagotonia and in people with initial sympathicotonia, which indicate a moderate degree of maladaptation, which requires early correction to prevent the development of nonspecific and specific changes in internal organs.

The results of research are implemented in the educational process and in the work of clinical institutions, reflected in scientific reports and publications. According to the results of the study, 13 articles and 16 abstracts were published at 16 Ukrainian and international conferences. The certificate of copyright registration for the work “Practical recommendations for improving the adaptation of students to the multinational environment of the university” was received. The monograph on “Diagnosis of the functional state of autonomous regulation and prediction of maladaptation” was published in the edition of Scholarly Publisher RS Global Sp. z O.O (Warsaw, Poland).

Since 2021, the Physiology department together with the Department of Physical Education and Health performs research work on the topic “FEATURES OF INTERSYSTEM CARDIORESPIRATORY INTEGRATION IN YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF AUTONOMIC REGULATION”, specialty 222 “Medicine”, specialization “Normal Physiology ».

Every year the Department of Physiology holds the UKRAINIAN SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE OF STUDENTS AND YOUNG SCIENTISTS IN PHYSIOLOGY WITH INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION “Physiology to medicine, pharmacy and pedagogy: Current issues and modern achievements”. The co-organizers of the conference are National University of Pharmacy and Kharkiv National Pedagogical University of G.S. Skovoroda.

The department takes active part in international scientific conferences, symposia, congresses. In recent years, close scientific ties have been established with the departments of physiology of other higher educational institutions of Ukraine.
