Scientific work of the Department of Pediatrics №1 and Neonatology

The scientific activity of the staff of the department is focused on topical issues of modern pediatrics:

  • introduction of European and world criteria of developmental medicine, disease prevention at the stage of premorbid background formation;
  • improving the diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular disorders of newborns, children and adolescents in Kharkiv region on the basis of scientific research centers on the stratification of the most influential risk factors for their development in the pediatric population from perinatal to adolescence;
  • improving the prevention of disability, orphanhood, improving the quality of life of children and families, reducing the number and duration of hospitalizations;
  • prevention of interstitial and eponymous diseases of children in the population in Kharkiv region;
  • prevention of disorders of physical and sexual development of children, their quality of life, psychological and social adaptation, prevention of the risk of cardiovascular catastrophes in young and adulthood, reducing the number of hospitalizations in children and later adult life.

Given the basic directions scientific activity of the teaching staff of the department created scientific centers:

  1. SC of perinatal and pediatric cardiology:
  • perinatal and neonatal cardiology: development of algorithms for monitoring newborns with congenital heart defects in the early neonatal period (developed for the first time in Ukraine);
  • population research to determine the normative indicators of the cardiovascular system in children and adolescents in Kharkiv region;
  • stratification of cardiovascular risk factors in the pediatric population Kharkiv region (developed for the first time in Ukraine);
  • determination of normative indicators of the state of the cardiovascular system of children who does sports (developed for the first time in Ukraine);
  • observation and rehabilitation of guch patients. Improving the quality of life of grown-up congenital heart disease patients and their families (developed for the first time in Ukraine).

Developed 3 patents for a utility model, 1 – for an invention

47 articles have been published in journals of the scientometric database, including 4 articles in the journals SCOPUS and Web of Science.

The materials of the work are presented in reports at 34 scientific-practical and international forums. 

  1. SC Child Development and Palliative Care (O. Riga)
  • increasing the efficiency of diagnosis of developmental disorders;
  • development of educational programs in the new field of developmental pediatrics;
  • palliative care for children with incurable diseases;
  • conducting research in the population;
  • counseling of children, parents and specialists;
  • study of the validity of the tool for assessing the development of children in the population of Kharkiv region (Ankara, Turkey).

  • Chronic pain syndrome, communications in pediatrics, integrative medicine;
  • Development of the field “Development Pediatrics” in conjunction with the European Academy of Pediatrics and the Ukrainian Academy of Pediatrics;

III. SC of interstitial and eponymous lung diseases in children (Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Logvinova Olga):

  • Criteria of adverse effects of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (developed for the first time in Ukraine);
  • Criteria of predictions the survival of a child with pulmonary hypertension on the background of Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (developed for the first time in Ukraine);
  • Prevention of chronic pulmonary heart disease and interstitial lung disease (developed for the first time in Ukraine).

Scientific work

  • Developed 4 patent and the utility model, 1 – on the invention;
  • Published 63 articles in journals of the scientometric base;
  • 2 articles were submitted for publication in SCOPUS journals;
  • The materials of the work are presented in reports at 26 scientific-practical and international forums.

Therapeutic work

  • Protocols for the treatment of interstitial lung diseases, bronchitis, pneumonia ERS / ATS;
  • Developed by: 4 innovations, 2 methodical recommendations Ministry of Health of Ukraine (2014-2015), 57 implementations of the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital.

  • Stratification of cardiometabolic risk factors in children with physical disabilities (developed for the first time in Ukraine);
  • Registration as a center for the study of children with sexual differentiation (developed for the first time in Ukraine).

For the last 5 years the staff and applicants of the department have defended 5 candidate dissertations and 2 doctoral dissertations. Currently, 2 candidate dissertations and 6 works for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy are being completed. Received 18 utility model patents and more than 400 implementation acts. The department has published more than 500 articles and about 600 abstracts of reports at scientific forums of various levels.
