Clinical work is carried out by the staff of the department on the basis of clinical departments of the Regional Clinical Center of urology and nephrology named after V.I. Shapoval, namely General Urological Department #1, Department of kidney transplantation #2, Department of minimally invasive methods of treatment #3, Department of oncourology #5, Department of urogenital tuberculosis #6, Department of Andrology #8 and Department of nephrology and peritoneal dialysis #10, as well as on the basis of the University Clinic of KhNMU. 4 departments of Center are headed by professors and associate professors of the department; the rest have a cathedral curator.

All employees of the department take a direct part in the diagnostic and treatment process of the Center, lead patients, are on duty at the center, air ambulance, home counseling, participate in clinical reviews, conferences, meetings, “specialist days”, provide advice in other departments of the Center, medical institutions of the city and region.

On the initiative and with the direct participation of the department staff, the Center introduced a number of new modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods, including unique ones that do not have world analogues, in particular: ultrasound and X-ray examination of the genitourinary system; fine-needle prostate biopsy, kidney biopsy; percutaneous aspiration puncture of kidney cysts; diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, treatment of prostatitis and infertility of men; treatment of impotence, including by endophaloprosthetics; remote and contact crushing of kidney stones, ureters, bladder; transurethral resection of Superficial Bladder Cancer, adenoma and prostate cancer on endoscopic equipment; endoscopic “cold dissection” of urethral and ureter strictures; treatment of genitourinary tuberculosis; radical removal of the bladder with the formation of an artificial bladder with the preservation of natural urination; radical removal of the prostate gland in its cancer; performing peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis, as well as family kidney transplantation in patients with chronic renal failure.

On average, the Department’s staff treats and consults about 10,000 patients a year and performs more than 1,500 operations.
