About us

The Department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics was established on September 1, 2014. The department is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Olga Illivna Zalyubovska.
The main activities of the department include: educational, scientific, methodological, medical-diagnostic and consulting work.
Educational activity consists in training applicants for higher education in specialty 224 “Technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment” of the first (bachelor’s) level (EPP is accredited, the decision was made at a meeting on April 8, 2021, protocol № 5 (48)), the second (master’s) level (EPP is accredited, the decision was made at the meeting on January 28, 2020, protocol № 2 (19) .2.157) and the third (Doctor of Philosophy) level (the ESP is accredited, the decision was made at the meeting on February 15, 2020, protocol № 24 (41)).
Teaching selected educational components for applicants for higher education incl. foreign students in the specialties 221 “Dentistry”, 222 “Medicine”, 227 “Physical therapy, occupational therapy”. Interns in the specialty of laboratory diagnostics study at the department, there is a postgraduate course and courses of thematic improvement are taught.
Scientific directions of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics on an initiative topic: “Optimization of algorithms for laboratory diagnosis of orthopedic diseases and predicting their complications during conservative and surgical treatment” and “Development of biomechanically based methods of rehabilitation treatment for diseases and injuries of the pelvis” (together with rehabilitation medicine, physical therapy and occupational therapy), “The embodiment of new methods of laboratory and functional diagnostics in the clinic of internal diseases” (together with the laboratory “Metrolab” SE “Kharkivstandartmetrologiya”).
The department team began work with Mercy College, New York State, as part of the EPP «Laboratory Diagnostics». The possibility of internship, training and obtaining double diplomas is being considered.

The department was founded at Kharkiv National Medical University on September 1, 2014.
In 2015, the first graduations of masters and interns in the specialty “Laboratory Diagnostics” took place.
In 2016, a graduate school was opened in the specialty “Technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment.”
In 2017, specialization courses in “Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics” were launched.
In 2019, open courses on thematic improvement in laboratory medicine.
In 2019, the accreditation of the educational-professional program “Laboratory Diagnostics” of the second (master’s) level of higher education was carried out.
In 2020, the accreditation of the educational and scientific program “Laboratory Diagnostics” of the third educational and scientific level (Doctor of Philosophy) was carried out.
In 2021, the accreditation of the educational-professional program “Laboratory Diagnostics” of the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education was carried out.

In the first year in 2021, 33 graduates of higher education of the first (bachelor’s) and 11 second (master’s) levels are enrolled in the specialty “Technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment”.
For graduates of 1-4 courses of the first (bachelor’s) level in the specialty “Technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment” specialization “Laboratory diagnostics” 4 medical faculty at the department the following disciplines are taught: “Technique of laboratory works”, “Manipulation technique”, “Introduction to specialty”, “Biological and clinical chemistry”, “Laboratory diagnostics of parasitic infestations”, “Clinical laboratory diagnostics” and industrial and undergraduate practices are conducted.
For applicants for higher education 1st and 2nd year of the second (master’s) level in the specialty “Technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment” specialization “Laboratory diagnostics” 4 medical faculty at the department teaches the following disciplines: “Cytological diagnostics”, “Clinical pathohistology”, “Biochemistry of pathological processes”, “Clinical evaluation of laboratory research”, “Quality management system of laboratory research”, “Evidence-based medicine. Algorithms and standards of laboratory diagnostics”, “Influence of drugs on laboratory indicators” and production practices are carried out: pedagogical and by specialty: in pathohistological, immunological, biochemical, cytological laboratories.
For graduates of the second (master’s) level of higher education in the specialty “Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy” the discipline “Laboratory and Functional Diagnostics” is taught.
For Ukrainian-speaking graduates of 1-3 medical and dental faculties, the department has prepared elective courses: “Side effects of drugs”, “Clinical laboratory diagnostics” and “Clinical evaluation of laboratory tests”.
For English-speaking graduates of 6.7 medical faculties, the department has prepared elective courses “Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics”, “Clinical evaluation of laboratory tests” and “Side effects of drugs”.
Internships are held for interns in the specialty “Technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment” and courses of thematic improvement are taught.

Classes for applicants for higher education are held on the basis of the Educational and scientific medical complex “University Clinic” KhNMU (Kharkiv, Oleksandra Shpeiiera street, 4) on the clinical bases of the Department of the CNPE “City Clinical Hospital № 2 named after prof. O.O. Shalimov” of Kharkiv City Council (Kharkiv, Moskovskyi avenue, 197); State Institution “Institute of Dermatology and Venereology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” (Kharkiv, Chernyshevska street, 7/9), with which agreements on cooperation have been concluded.
Classes for higher education students are held on the basis the educational-scientific medical complex “University Clinic” KhNMU, on the basis of clinical diagnostic laboratory of the CNPE “City Clinical Hospital № 2 named after prof. O.O. Shalimov”.
Industrial and pre-diploma practice for applicants for higher education “Bachelor” and “Master” educational level is conducted on the basis of PE «Ekomed» (Kharkiv, Bakulina Street, 4), LLC «Zdorov’ia» (Kharkiv, Pravdy Avenue, 13), ML ” Analitika ” (Kharkiv, Trinklera Street, 6) and LLC “Metrolab” SE “Kharkivstandartmetrologiya” (Kharkiv, Pushkinska Street 51B).
The department has created 5 study guidesand 6 methodical recommendations for applicants for higher education.
The training of scientific personnel is carried out according to the educational and scientific program “Technologies of Medical Diagnostics and Treatment”, 3 post-graduate students are studying.

During the existence of the department, 1 candidate dissertation was defended. The department trains 3 applicants for higher education, Doctor of Philosophy.
A scientific and practical conference with international participation for doctors-laboratory assistants and other specialties “Modern issues of laboratory medicine” is held annually; interuniversity scientific and practical conferences for young scientists, applicants for higher education and interns “Actual problems of laboratory medicine”; round tables for stakeholders (representatives of graduating departments, employers, the academic community, applicants for higher education).

Since 7 years of existence of the department, the department staff has prepared more than 125 scientific works, incl. 25 – in foreign publications (3 articles in journals indexed in the Scopus base), 4 patents for an invention, 1 information letter and 3 copyright certificates on a scientific work.
Professor Zalyubovska O. and Associate Professor Avidzba Yu. are scientific consultants of the laboratory “Metrolab” SE “Kharkivstandartmetrologiya”.
Clinical trials, verification of laboratory research methods are underway at the department.

Specialists of the department carry out medical and advisory work on the basis of the Educational and scientific medical complex “University Clinic” KhNMU and the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the CNPE “City Clinical Hospital № 2 named after prof. O.O. Shalimov” of Kharkiv City Council. The specialists of the department establish laboratory diagnoses, interpret the research results and advise clinicians on laboratory medicine.

Training of interns at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics is carried out in accordance with the curriculum and the program of specialization (internship) in the specialty “Laboratory Diagnostics”, approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Training consists of a full-time cycle (lectures, workshops, seminars, conferences), independent extracurricular work (interpretation of laboratory studies, establishing laboratory diagnoses, analyzing the effect of drugs on laboratory parameters, etc.) and an extramural cycle (work in clinical diagnostic laboratories – preventive institutions of the city).
Much attention is paid to the acquisition of practical skills, preparation for the licensed exams “KROK 3 Laboratory diagnostics” and computer testing in the specialty “Laboratory diagnostics” under the licensed program “Elex”.
The Department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics has concluded cooperation agreements with the clinical diagnostic laboratories of the CNPE “City Clinical Hospital № 2 named after prof. O.O. Shalimov” of Kharkiv City Council and the Endocrinological Clinic of the State Institution «Institute of Problems of Endocrine Pathology named after V.Ya. Danilevsky of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine», which are the educational and clinical bases of the department, where doctors-interns undergo a full-time cycle.
All the necessary conditions have been created at the department. For practical classes, study rooms are equipped with stands with a schedule of classes and lectures, lists of abstracts and recommended literature with additions.
The department has the necessary tables, projection equipment, televisions, computers, microscopes, teaching aids and teaching materials, in sufficient quantity.
The department has an educational and methodological laboratory on the basis of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the CNPE “City Clinical Hospital № 2 named after prof. O. O. Shalimov” of Kharkiv City Council.
On the Moodle distance learning platform at KhNMU, a course for intern doctors in the specialty of laboratory diagnostics was created, which contains educational and methodological materials, examples of filling out reporting documentation for interns and test tasks for booklets, over the past 5 years, in order to prepare for the delivery of a license exam “KROK-3. Laboratory diagnostics”.
Clinical training bases for interns (correspondence course) CNPE “City Clinical Hospital № 2 named after prof. O. O. Shalimov” of Kharkiv City Council, CNPE “Kharkiv City Clinical Multidisciplinary Hospital № 17” of Kharkiv City Council, CNPE of the Kharkiv Regional Council “Regional Clinical Hospital”, CNPE “Kharkiv City Clinical Hospital of Emergency and Emergency Medical Care named after Prof. O.I. Meshchanynov”, State Institution “Institute of Pathology of the Spine and Joints named after prof. M. I. Sitenko of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”.
The heads of the interns at these bases are the heads of clinical diagnostic laboratories, who are laboratory doctors of the highest category and have a wide practical experience and are actively involved in scientific activities.

Student scientific circle of the department in 2020-2021 consisted of 18 students of educational level “Bachelor” 3-4 courses and 7 students of the ROC “Master” specialty “Technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment, specialization” Laboratory diagnostics “.

Student scientific research is carried out on the basis of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the educational and scientific medical complex “University Clinic” KhNMU.

The main scientific direction of the student scientific circle is modern issues of laboratory medicine.
