Training on editing Wikipedia articles

On the occasion of the celebration of the Birthday of the Ukrainian Wikipedia, which takes place on January 30, the representative of the GO “Student Government of the KhNMU” Polina Kyyko attended a training from the Youth Council under the Kharkiv City Mayor on editing Wikipedia articles.

The main goal of the training was to familiarize participants with the basics of editing articles in Wikipedia, develop skills in searching, verifying and formatting information, as well as support the active participation of the community in this area.

The first stage of the event was a discussion of the basics of working with Wikipedia, namely, registration and account settings, user interface; analysis of the main elements of the editor, Wikipedia policies and standards – neutrality, reliability of sources, formatting links.

The next part of this event was the practical part: creating and editing an article in a test environment; working with visual tools (markup, images, tables); searching and evaluating sources of information, working with links; answering questions and analyzing typical errors.

Thanks to the training on editing Wikipedia articles as part of the Wikimarathon for the birthday of the Ukrainian Wikipedia, the participants got acquainted with the basic tools, mastered the techniques of checking information and formatting links, which will allow them to improve the quality of future articles.

The student also plans to implement the acquired knowledge in the work of the Student Government for the benefit of the university and for the development of Ukrainian history.
