KhNMU students took part in the summer camp

From June 24 to 30, the summer camp “Youth on the path to building peace” took place in Bukovel as part of the project from the NGO “La Strada-Ukraine” – “Prevention of gender-based violence, human trafficking and violation of children’s rights.”

Two students of KhNMU, Valeriya Shevchenko (1st medical) and Vladyslav Shelest (3rd medical) were also invited to the event for professional development, as they already have experience in conducting lectures and trainings as part of the program “The active youth community: on the way to building peace” and are trainers from the NGO “La Strada-Ukraine” as part of the implementation of the project “Development of systems for preventing and responding to violence in educational institutions and increasing the resilience of adolescents”, which is implemented by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the NGO “La Strada-Ukraine” within of the Kharkiv National Medical University on the initiative of the Student Self-Government of the KhNMU.

A total of 25 participants were selected from higher education institutions of different regions of Ukraine (Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Odesa, Khmelnytskyi, Uzhgorod, Kharkiv, Lviv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Ternopil, Rivne, Kyiv, etc.).

During the 5-day Youth Summer Camp, our students completed the following tasks:

  • Drafted new legislation related to the prevention and counteraction of domestic violence, bullying;
  • Increased awareness of the forms, causes and consequences of domestic violence, bullying;
  • Acquired basic knowledge of conflict studies and peacebuilding;
  • Consolidated practical skills of countering manifestations of violence in everyday life;
  • Developed forms and methods of working with the target audience;
  • Formed and consolidated practical skills of conducting informational and educational activities.

After the training, the participants had the opportunity to discuss further cooperation and implementation of projects at the Kharkiv National Medical University and other higher education institutions and organizations with representatives of the NGO “La Strada-Ukraine”.

The students also received Certificates indicating that they are certified trainers and are able to conduct active educational activities.
