Celebrating Social Work Day with the University of Nottingham

Every year on the third Tuesday of March, World Social Work Day is celebrated, the purpose of which is to draw the attention of the authorities and society to the problem of social exposure, exchange experience in social work issues and develop the social sphere. On the eve of this day, at the initiative of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, Medical Psychology and Social Work of the KhNMU, a joint online event was held with Nottingham Trent University (NTU).

British teachers and students of the NTU School of Social Sciences participated in the scientific and practical conference dedicated to the celebration of World Social Work Day. The event was opened by Dr. Simon Cauvian, Head of the Department of Social Work, Care and Community, who welcomed all participants of the conference and emphasized that such a joint event can become a bridge of solidarity and mutual understanding not only between NTU and KNMU, but also between British and Ukrainian society.

From the KNMU side, the speakers were the guarantor of the education program “Social Work” Oleksandr Mohylka, education seekers and graduates studying and working in this specialty, who presented the features of practical training and employment of social workers in the Kharkiv region. The director of the Kharkiv Regional Center for Social Services Oksana Radich also joined the conference with a presentation on the system of interaction in Ukraine of social service providers. All reports were presented in English and aroused keen interest in the British audience.

The report of NTU lecturer Sarah Askin, which was devoted to studying the impact of international exchange on the education of students in the specialty “social work” in the UK, was very interesting for further cooperation between universities. Head of the Department of International Relations and Grant Work, Oksana Vasilyeva, thanked her British colleagues for their partnership and support of KNMU during the war, expressing her strong hope that cooperation in this area of work will continue to develop, both at the university and state levels.
