The main tasks of the Center are:

  • creation of information resources on gender issues for participants in the educational process;
  • dissemination of gender knowledge through the development and implementation of the latest socio-pedagogical, informational and educational technologies;
  • study, improvement, and dissemination of relevant gender technologies and methods to influence the direction and content of the educational process in higher education.

Gender issues in educational, scientific, and educational work are presented as interdisciplinary and cross-cutting. This work is coordinated by the Center for Gender Education of KhNMU. Since 2007, gender has been the focus of both the biomedical and humanities disciplines, which is now reflected in the curriculum of individual disciplines, as well as in materials for classes in the MOODLE system (for example, philosophy, general sociology, and an elective course on academic integrity, ethics, inequality, and discrimination in society).

In October 2016, representatives of the Center (students and teachers) received a grant to participate in training in gender medicine at the Institute of Gender Medicine at the Charité Clinic (Berlin, Germany). During the training, Prof. Karpenko K.I. delivered a lecture on the prospects for the introduction of gender medicine at KhNMU.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, a study was conducted on Gender aspects of the state of the dentition of the adult population of Kharkiv (Slinko Y.O., Yanishen I.V., Sokolova I.I., Karpenko K.I., Udovichenko N.M.). Orthopantomograms of 1269 patients of both sexes, aged 18 to 84 years, were analyzed. The results of the study were tested at the 7th International Interdisciplinary Conference “Gender. Ecology. Health” (April 22, 2021), and also submitted for publication in the journal of the Scopus scientometric database.

A clear result of the interdisciplinary nature of gender issues in the educational process is the preparation of publications by teachers and students and active participation in the International Interdisciplinary Conference “Gender. Ecology. Health” (2007, 2008, 2011, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021), which is conducted on the initiative and methodological support of the Center for Gender Education of KhNMU. The student section is singled out in the conference materials. In addition, there are joint publications of teachers and students.

On April 22-23, 2021, the VII International Interdisciplinary Scientific and Practical Conference “Gender. ecology. Health “was held. It was organized and coordinated by the Department of Philosophy and the Center for Gender Education of the University. This time the reason for the online meeting of the scientific and medical community was the challenges of the COVID-19 era.

During the online conference, participants had the opportunity to hear speeches by experts from Ukraine, Sweden, Italy, the Czech Republic, Serbia, India, Belarus, Poland, Croatia, Germany, and Armenia.

It is a good tradition for the conference to bring together scholars of different ages, countries, and cultures. As always, this time, the student section was numerous. The report of the 3rd year student of the 6th Medical Faculty, Adesegun Kuye Jacobs, was recognized as one of the best.

Within the framework of the event, the Proceedings of the conference were published. It included the abstracts of more than two hundred specialists and young scientists from many educational institutions of Kharkiv, other cities of Ukraine, and research centers near and far abroad.
