The establishment of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry began on December 20, 1979. Leonid Yakovlevich Chorny was invited to head the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of the KhMI.

In 1965 Leonid Yakovlevich defended his dissertation “Orthopedic methods of treatment in the complex therapy of periodontitis”, received a diploma of candidate of medical sciences. The academic title of associate professor was awarded in 1980, which coincided with the first anniversary of the birth of the department. Chorny Leonid Yakovlevich is the author of 53 scientific works, 1 textbook, 5 methodical instructions, 9 author’s certificates for the invention.

In September 1996, the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of Kharkiv State Medical University was headed by Viktor Golik. In 1985 he defended his dissertation on “Treatment of acute ulcerative lesions of the oral mucosa with a foam aerosol” Hyposol “. In 1994 – defense of a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the topic: “New aspects of pathogenesis, prognosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with acute ulcerative-necrotic gingival stomatitis.”

From September 2001 to November 2005 Golik V.P. combined the position of the head of the department with the position of the dean of the dental faculty of KhNMU. Over the years, Professor Golik V.P. published 535 scientific works, of which 3 textbooks, 12 monographs, 29 textbooks and manuals, received 56 patents. Since 1998, Golik V.P. has been a corresponding member of the International Academy of Integrative Anthropology. He was a member of the commission on medicine of the scientific-methodical Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. He held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Kharkiv branch of the Association of Dentists of Ukraine, was a member of the Academic Council of the KSMU and an expert of the Testing Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. In October 2001 he was awarded the title of Professor, and in April 2005 – the title of “Honored Professor of KSMU”, in November 2006 he was awarded a diploma and a medal of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, in June 2014 – a diploma of the Ministry of Health Of Ukraine.

Since September 2016, Yanishen Ihor Volodymyrovych has been heading the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of Kharkiv National Medical University, working as the Head of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of KhNMU. Yanishen I.V. studied for a master’s degree at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of KSMU from 1995 to 1997, after which he worked as a senior laboratory assistant until 1999. Until 2001, he combined this position with the position of assistant at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of KSMU. From 2001 to 2006 he worked as an assistant at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of KSMU. In 2005 Igor Vladimirovich defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic: “Clinical and laboratory evaluation of the rationale for the clinical use of a new domestic alginate impression material” Stomalgin-04″. In the period from 2006 to 2014 he held the position of associate professor of the department. In 2008 he was awarded the academic title of associate professor. In the period from 2014 to 2016 he was the head of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of KhNMU. In January 2016, Igor Vladimirovich defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on “Clinical and technological aspects of quality assurance in orthopedic dentistry”. Author of 324 scientific works, 36 educational and methodical developments and 24 declarative patents of Ukraine.
