About us
The department of traumatology and orthopedics of Kharkiv National Medical University was founded in 1921. The main activities of the department are: educational and scientific work, methodical, medical-diagnostic and consultative work.
The educational activity of the department consists in teaching 5th year students of medical faculties of Kharkiv National Medical University on the subject “Traumatology and Orthopedics” and “Traumatology and Orthopedics with features in children”, the 3rd year bachelors of the IV Medical Faculty on the specialty “Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy” on the subject “Sports Traumatology” and “Traumatology and Orthopedics”; the 1st year masters of the IV medical faculty in the subject “Traumatology and Orthopedics”, as well as in the training of PhD students.
The scientific direction of the department includes diagnosis of osteoporosis in infectious inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system, osteoarticular tuberculosis, development of new osteosynthesis methods of injuries of long bones of the extremities, treatment of injuries and diseases of the pelvis, joints, spine, hip and knee replacement.
Scientific and educational activities are closely related to the methodical work – the preparation and publication of national textbooks, guidelines for traumatology and orthopedics.
The clinical base is Public non-profit enterprise ” Kharkiv Municipal Clinical Emergency Care Hospital named after A.I. Meshchaninov” of Kharkiv City Council. Conferences, practical classes, workshops are held together with the teams of traumatology departments №1 and №2.

SSC members: 5 course students of medical faculties.
List of members is updated yearly.
Conducting form: monthly meeting online (Zoom, Google Meet) or at the department offline.
At the meetings the teacher acquaints students with modern principles of diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and congenital deformities. Students give mini-presentations of those cases of musculoskeletal injuries that interested students. After the speeches, the reports are discussed.

Students under the guidance of the head of department of Prof. H.H. Holka and assistant lecturer M. A. Harkusha prepared and published 6 publications, took part in the following conferences:
