Research interests of the department
The priority direction of scientific research of the department is the verification and validation of diagnostic and prognostic markers of subclinical lesions of target organs in cardiopulmonary polymorbidity, including post-COVID syndrome, on the basis of laboratory and instrumental studies. The relevance and practical significance of the scientific direction of the department are related to the importance of subclinical lesions of target organs in cardiopulmonary pathology as a potent risk stratification factor that is essential for selecting the treatment strategy to prevent damage to target organs and/or regression of existing lesions, which will provide organ protection and positively affect the individualization of treatment.
The topic of the research work of the department: «Optimizing the early diagnosis of damage to the cardiovascular system in patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and associated conditions».
Since 1991, 40 dissertations (5 dissertations for the scientific degree of Doctor of medical sciences and 35 PhD dissertations) have been completed within the department.
The staff of the department actively participates in clinical trials related to the introduction of innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease in cohorts of patients with high cardiovascular risk.
Professor H.V. Yeromenko is a member of the Ministry of Education and Science Commission on scientific research.
The results of research have been presented in over 1,000 scientific publications, including 12 monographs, 37 Patents of Ukraine, 6 methodical recommendations approved by the Ukrainian Medical Patent Service, 22 articles in journals that are indexed in SCOPUS and WEB OF SCIENCE databases.
Scientific and practical conferences held by the department.
The staff of the department regularly organizes scientific and practical conferences with international participation, dedicated to current issues of internal medicine and debatable issues of bioethics, biosafety and biosecurity in medical practice.
In order to attract students to scientific work, students’ abstract conferences on the problems of bioethics and biosafety and current problems of internal diseases are held annually.
The staff of the department takes an active part in the work of international congresses and conferences. The main results of the scientific work of the department are represented and discussed at scientific conferences and congresses in Ukraine, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Norway, and Great Britain. Scientific reports are regularly presented at congresses of European Society of Cardiology, European Society of Hypertension, European Atherosclerosis Association, international congresses on pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome, international congresses EuroEcho, EuroPrevent.
